When it comes to eating within your own foodshed, wild foraging is as local as it gets. Come explore 50-plus common edible native plants from mountain to sea--with award-winning author and naturalist, Jennifer Hahn. 


Jennifer will share slides and stories from her new book PACIFIC FEAST: A Cook’s Guide to West Coast Foraging and Cuisine (www.pacificfeast.com) Discover a host of delicious and nutritious wild and weedy greens, trees, ferns, berries, flowers, mushrooms, sea veggies and shellfish that thrive along the Pacific Coast. Enjoy a refreshing blend of natural history, sustainable foraging guidelines, First Nation uses, personal anecdotes, nutrition, “field notes,” and 65 fabulous recipes from 50 of the top Northwest Chefs from Alaska to California! “WILD FALL FORAGING HIKE
Join Jennifer Hahn, WWU Adjunct Professor and author of "Pacific Feast: A Cook's Guide to West Coast Foraging & Cuisine," for a hike exploring edible mushrooms, berries and mmmore in the autumnal North Cascades. Participants will meet at "In the Kitchen" at 8:00 (not 9:00!) and carpool to the hiking trail. Have a full tank of gas, anyone who wishes to drive. Students need to bring hiking shoes, sack lunch,    water bottle and all-weather clothes, and must be able to hike 4-5 miles round-trip on mountain trails. Students wishing to take foraged items from the forest must bring a WA Driver's License to obtain a free "Non-timber Forest Products" permit from the USFS office en route. The class is limited to 15 students.
